Does my phone support eSIM?

Most recent phones support eSIM, but not every model, and not every version of the same model. The surest check takes a minute on the phone itself.

Check on your phone

Models that usually support eSIM

  • iPhone: iPhone XR, XS and XS Max and every later model. Apple notes that iPhones bought in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao can differ, so check on the phone.
  • Google Pixel: Pixel 4 and later. Some Pixel 3 and 3a phones also do, depending on where and from which carrier they were bought.
  • Samsung Galaxy: most S models from the S20 on, the Z Fold and Z Flip models, the Note20 and some A models. Samsung says support can vary by country of purchase, carrier, model and software version.

You can search your exact model on the Supported devices page on silentsim.net. A model on the list is a good sign, but the check on the phone is what counts.

Also check

  • Unlocked: your phone must not be locked to one carrier. A locked phone can refuse a travel eSIM even when it supports eSIM.
  • Tablets and watches: only cellular models can have an eSIM. Many smartwatches accept only a plan from a carrier linked to your phone, so do not assume a travel eSIM will install on a watch.
