Crossing borders with a regional or global plan

A regional or global plan works in every country on its coverage list, on the same eSIM. You don't need to install anything new at the border.

Before you go

  • Check that every country on your route is covered. The plan page lists the countries.
  • Your data is shared across all covered countries. It's one allowance, not a separate amount for each country.
  • Validity counts in days from when the plan starts, wherever you are.
  • A country that isn't on the list won't work, even if it's next door to one that is. For that part of the trip, you can add a separate plan from our plans page.

The coverage list is also on your order page, in your account.

When you arrive in a new country

  1. Keep data roaming on for the SilentSIM eSIM, and keep the eSIM as your mobile data line.
  2. Give your phone a few minutes to find a local network. The network name shown on your phone will change.
  3. No data after a few minutes? Turn Airplane mode on for about 30 seconds and then off, or restart your phone.
  4. If you chose a network by hand in the last country, set network selection back to Automatic (Network Selection on iPhone; Network operators or the eSIM's network settings on Android). A network from the last country isn't available in the next.
  5. Still nothing? Choose one of the listed networks by hand.

Good to know

  • Speeds and networks differ from country to country.
  • Some plans route your data through another country, so websites and apps may show content for that country. It doesn't mean the eSIM is in the wrong place.

If your plan comes with a phone number, what you can call or text can depend on the plan and on the country you're in. Check your plan's details before you rely on calls or texts in a new country.

Trouble after crossing a border? Contact support and tell us where you are and which network your phone shows.
