Can I share my data (hotspot)?
Whether you can share your data as a hotspot depends on the plan and the network, not on your phone. Some plans limit or block it. If your plan's page mentions hotspot or tethering, that's what applies. You can compare plans on our plans page.
Before you share
- Everything you share comes out of your plan's data. A laptop can use far more than a phone, so pause cloud backups and system updates, and lower video call quality.
- On a plan with a daily high-speed allowance, a hotspot can use up the day's allowance quickly. After that, data keeps working at a lower speed until it resets.
- Test it early, while you still have Wi-Fi to fall back on.
- Watch your battery. A hotspot drains it faster. Turn the hotspot off when you're done, because connected devices keep using data in the background.
Turn on the hotspot
The hotspot shares whichever line your phone uses for mobile data, so make sure that's the SilentSIM eSIM first.
- Check that Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data is set to the SilentSIM eSIM.
- Open Settings > Personal Hotspot (on some versions, Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot).
- Turn on Allow Others to Join and note the Wi-Fi password.
- On the other device, join the Wi-Fi network named after your iPhone.
- Check that the eSIM is set as the SIM for Mobile data.
- Open Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering (Samsung) or Settings > Network & internet > Hotspot & tethering (Pixel and most others).
- Turn on the Wi-Fi hotspot and note its name and password.
- Connect the other device to that Wi-Fi network.
Connected, but no internet?
First check that your phone itself has data. If it does but the connected devices don't, the plan may not allow sharing. Contact support with your phone model and the plan you bought, and we'll check.
